BACKGROUND
Designing powerpoint presentations was my primary task while working under Spinnaker Support's marketing team, so when Spinnaker went through a radical rebrand initiative in 2022, I began drafting up a Powerpoint template with the goal of creating something eye-catching, visually appealing, and easy for anyone to customize.
PROCESS & TECHNIQUE
All in all, this template went through almost ten drafts before finally landing on the final deck pictured above (sample slides of the first three drafts are pictured below). Since Spinnaker was just starting out with their rebranding initiative it was unclear what direction they wanted to take their presentation templates, but knew they wanted a more modern approach from their original branding. Ultimately, we were able to develop this set of 54 slides, containing dynamic formatting, prominent photo and icon use, and a bold color scheme.
TYPEFACES: Sora, Playfair Display
COLOR SCHEME:
ROUGH DRAFT 1 (SAMPLE)
My first set of sample slides took Spinnaker's "modernistic" suggestion to the extreme, capitalizing on the diagonals of the new A-shaped logo icon by incorporating a more triangular/ diagonal design. Spinnaker expressed they were hoping for something cleaner-looking, resulting in the second rough draft below.
ROUGH DRAFT 2 (SAMPLE)
Streamlining the overall design in this second rough draft to something a bit more minimalist, Spinnaker ultimately decided it reflected the formatting of their old Powerpoint template too much, and wanted me to find a middle ground between the two rough drafts; something clean and simplified, but still diverse, eye-catching, and inventive.
FIRST DRAFT (SAMPLE)
Finally, after Spinnaker and I were able to collaborate on developing a mood-board together, I was able to compile a first draft which better met their expectations. It's here you can see the final composition begin to emerge: the bold blue/white color scheme, hard lines, and non-symmetrical layouts would remain relatively unchanged throughout all later drafts, with only minor alterations along the way.
